Job Description
Monzo is recruiting a Senior Finance Business Partner for its Commercial Finance team in London, on a hybrid basis. The partner would support the Borrowing collective, including the Flex card, loan and overdraft books. The posting gives a salary of £84,200 to £99,000 plus incentive awards tied to performance and benefits. Distributed working within the UK is possible, with at least one day a week in the London office.
The team manages the profit and loss account and balance sheet, delivers the financial plan, supports strategic financial decisions, and challenges the business to improve results. It is also accountable for the complete financial picture and financial controls of its area. The partner would act as the main liaison between the business and finance teams, work with senior leaders on commercial projects, review how existing products are performing, and support the business day to day. The role includes looking for trends and opportunities in the data, testing pricing and customer strategy through scenario analysis, and scoping new markets and products. It also involves designing commercial terms for business cases, negotiating with partners and presenting ideas to engineering, legal, risk, product, strategy and marketing colleagues.
The partner would also design and build decision-making processes that scale with the company, and help build up a group of analysts who have defined development paths. Applicants should have demonstrable experience business partnering with senior leaders on revenue-generating projects, and be able to evaluate business cases and influence decisions. Strong financial modelling in Excel or Google Sheets is required, with SQL or Python an advantage. A background in retail banking is preferred, as is an understanding of credit. The role uses net present value and return on equity frameworks to shape profitable strategy.
The hiring process has four video or phone steps: a 30-minute recruiter call, a 30-minute call with a finance team member, a 45-minute call with the hiring manager and a 30-minute call with a stakeholder. The posting says the process usually takes three to four weeks. A learning allowance of £1,000 a year and flexible working hours are also offered.
