Coinbase is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Platform Engineer to join the ML Platform team within the Platform group. This remote-first position involves building the underlying infrastructure that supports model training, feature engineering, and model serving across the company. The resulting systems enable critical functions such as blockchain analysis, fraud detection, and user personalization. This role suits professionals experienced in distributed systems who want to manage infrastructure spanning stream processing, distributed training, and highly available inference services.
As part of a remote-first organization, staff members meet up quarterly for intensive in-person working sessions known as surges. The company operates in the financial technology sector with a mission centered on increasing economic freedom.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain the reliability of machine learning inference infrastructure for predictive models and LLMs while keeping latency low and availability high at scale
- Construct and refine low-latency streaming pipelines that supply production models with fresh feature data
- Enhance distributed training infrastructure so machine learning engineers can process large data volumes efficiently
- Create observability tools to track data quality and identify performance degradation
- Guide junior engineers in producing production-grade software and elevate team engineering standards
Requirements
- Have at least 5 years of professional software engineering experience with proven ownership of production distributed systems
- Demonstrate experience building and running large-scale low-latency data or machine learning infrastructure including streaming pipelines, online serving systems, or distributed training
- Show a history of mentoring engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and technical leadership
- Possess enough familiarity with machine learning platform components like feature stores, training orchestration, and model serving frameworks to collaborate effectively with machine learning engineers
- Apply generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow quality, cost, and efficiency
