Job Description
Mercury is hiring a Senior Manager of Compliance Governance to take charge of the main programs inside its Compliance Management System. Those programs are risk assessment, policy governance, training, reporting and oversight of compliance issues. The leader matures these programs to the standard expected of a regulated bank and guides them through regulatory examinations.
Mercury describes itself as a fintech company rather than an FDIC-insured bank, with banking services provided through partner banks. The company is still working toward final approval of its provisional national bank charter. The role is remote and sits within the Compliance function, with frequent coordination involving enterprise risk, legal, internal audit, the executive team and banking partners.
The leader sets priorities for a team of compliance professionals and builds their capabilities. The job calls for someone who understands what examiners expect from a compliance management system and can fit proven frameworks to the way Mercury works in practice, separating requirements that cannot bend from those open to adjustment for the company.
The posting frames compliance as a strategic function that keeps the business moving at pace while safeguarding users and earning their trust. The person will be expected to use technology and automation where it makes oversight more measurable.

- Run the compliance risk assessment process, covering its design, execution and link to the enterprise risk framework
- Be accountable for company-wide policy management, including standards and who owns each policy
- Build the enterprise training program around risk, and judge it by results rather than completion rates
- Supervise compliance issues inside the enterprise issues program, working with ERM to find, fix and verify them
- Prepare and present compliance reports for executives and governance bodies, with metrics that show program performance
- Help the company get ready for examinations and audits of the compliance management system
- Apply software and automation so oversight can scale, be measured and need less manual effort

- Wide grasp of banking rules, covering consumer protection and the Bank Secrecy Act
- Can make the case for compliance programs to executives, Board committees, bank partners and examiners
- Pragmatic judgment and a clear understanding of first and second line of defense roles
- Proficiency with AI tools, or eagerness to build that skill
- Strong written and spoken communication, plus high standards and a sense of personal accountability
