NetDocuments is hiring a Senior Manager of Software Engineering for their AI team. The company provides a cloud-based document management platform designed for the legal industry, utilizing a legal context graph to help organizations manage information securely. In this remote position, you will lead the AI Search engineering group, overseeing vector indexing pipelines and embedding models that power semantic search across the entire ecosystem.
This leadership role involves setting technical strategy, guiding roadmaps for indexing infrastructure, and collaborating with product, architecture, and data science teams. You will manage, mentor, and hire engineering staff while balancing operational stability with emerging retrieval technologies. The ideal candidate has a strong background in software engineering, prior management experience leading teams or other leaders, and familiarity with cloud-based product development on Azure or AWS.
Responsibilities
- Shape and execute the technical strategy for the AI Search platform focusing on semantic relevance and indexing reliability
- Partner with product, architecture, and vertical engineering teams to translate user requirements into scalable search capabilities
- Manage and mentor engineering staff to foster continuous improvement and high performance
- Oversee delivery execution across multiple teams to ensure timely, high-quality releases
- Design secure AI search solutions adhering to performance, data privacy, and compliance standards
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- At least 7 years of software engineering experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in engineering management roles
- Demonstrated background managing multiple teams or a group of at least 7 engineers and leaders
- Experience leading distributed, cloud-based product development on AWS or Azure
- Familiarity with machine learning model deployment and lifecycle management, specifically NLP or embedding models
- Background building or owning large-scale data pipelines including ETL, transformation, or indexing workflows
Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a related field
- Hands-on experience with dense vector retrieval or semantic search, including hybrid search and embedding model selection
- Familiarity with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch
- Knowledge of retrieval-augmented generation pipelines
- Background in natural language processing or information retrieval
