Job Description

ClickUp is an AI-native technology company building a converged productivity workspace combining tasks, documents, chat, calendar, and search into a single platform. The organization is currently seeking a Senior Manager, Software Engineering to lead an infrastructure team in a remote capacity. This position offers a salary between USD 250,000 and 300,000 per year.

This role bridges product and infrastructure engineering, requiring leadership across multi-region scalability, security standards, and cost optimization initiatives. The person in this role will guide a distributed, senior-heavy team of full-time employees and contractors located across North America and Europe, while remaining hands-on with architecture and coding.

Key focus areas include driving EKS data workload migrations, consolidating ingress points, implementing automated shard deployment via Backstage, and adopting AI-powered tooling within the infrastructure organization. Candidates must incorporate daily AI usage into their engineering work, as AI fluency is evaluated during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver annual cost savings by migrating data workloads to EKS and self-hosting essential services
  • Consolidate legacy frontend ALBs into a single EKS-managed ALB per shard to streamline deployments
  • Cross-train team members and hire targeted talent to eliminate single points of ownership in Networking, OpenSearch, and Terraform
  • Establish regular alignment channels with Product, AI, Enterprise, and Security teams to drive infrastructure planning based on demand
  • Deploy automated shard creation workflows through Backstage to reduce manual toil
  • Reduce P0 and P1 incidents related to Cloud Platform components by hardening ingress patterns and applying Terraform-policy guardrails
  • Manage incident responses and follow through on root cause analyses
  • Design and write code for core initiatives including EKS migrations, ALB consolidation, and Backstage automation
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a distributed team of senior engineers and contractors across the US, Canada, and Europe
  • Collaborate with Finance and leadership to oversee AWS spending, manage contractor budgets, and track savings targets

Requirements

  • Bring over 9 years of professional background in infrastructure and platform engineering
  • Accumulate at least 5 years of engineering management experience leading distributed teams of senior engineers while staying hands-on
  • Demonstrate deep mastery of AWS infrastructure including EKS, networking such as VPC, TGW, and DNS, and Terraform at scale
  • Possess experience translating cloud priorities into 3 to 9 month team roadmaps tied to business outcomes
  • Use AI tools daily in engineering work and show a strong appetite for DevSecOps agents and AI-assisted migrations
  • Maintain a security-first, verify-first mindset regarding blast radius management

Qualifications

  • Hold a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Gain prior experience in AI and ML infrastructure such as GPU orchestration, model-serving architecture, or cost-optimized compute for inference
