Job Description
Beacon Biosignals links brain health research and care through an at-home EEG platform for drug development, and a diagnostics unit focused on sleep disorders and other central nervous system conditions. This remote, full-time senior position covers the native code that bridges the company's EEG headbands and other wearable devices with patient and clinician apps. The engineer helps make sure high-quality data is captured reliably in homes, clinics, and study sites. The role is open to candidates across the US Eastern time zone, with a base range of $150,000 to $190,000.
The engineer leads the BLE device SDKs for iOS and Android, written in native code, and owns connection stability, data throughput, and battery use across many phone models, OS releases, and real-world conditions. Work also involves coordinating with the hardware group about firmware interfaces, GATT profiles, and how the device behaves, and exposing hardware features to React Native apps through tested native modules. Telemetry and field reports would guide the search for failure modes. In the first several months, the posting points to strengthening BLE pairing and reconnection, letting EEG streams recover after drops or backgrounding, supporting an in-app signal quality check, and adding field diagnostics for Clinical Operations.
The engineer would also contribute to the mobile team's planning and architecture direction, within a small, mission-focused group that operates asynchronously.
Responsibilities
- Steer the building of BLE device SDKs for iOS and Android in native code
- Take charge of connection stability, throughput, and battery performance
- Work alongside the Devices group on firmware interface design, GATT profiles, and how the hardware behaves
- Build native modules that give React Native apps access to device features
- Track link health through telemetry and reports from the field
- Help plan the mobile platform roadmap and direction
Requirements
- At least 8 years in mobile development
- Deep native experience on iOS with Swift and/or Android with Kotlin
- Practical history connecting BLE peripherals to shipping apps, including pairing, reconnect logic, running in the background, and data rates
- Practical use of Core Bluetooth or the Android BLE APIs
- Familiarity with sensor pipelines or wearable health data feeds
- Careful reliability thinking that accounts for edge cases, device variety, and performance
- Clear communication for collaborative, asynchronous teamwork
Qualifications
- Production React Native apps, or native modules written for React Native or Expo
- TypeScript skills and familiarity with React Native, Expo, and GitHub
- Work involving medical devices, EEG, or wearables
- Experience with apps for clinical studies, patients, or other regulated environments
- Open-source contributions to mobile or BLE projects
