Job Description
Immutable, a game platform company, is hiring a Senior Platform Engineer for its Platform team in Sydney. The team's purpose is to speed up the company's product teams while keeping them safe. It removes operational friction, builds shared tooling and self-service paths, and lets teams ship without rebuilding core infrastructure each time. The posting frames this as a hands-on individual contributor position that spans infrastructure and application work.
Typical projects include extending the company's own Kubernetes operator, which is coded in Go. That operator provisions a service and its AWS resources from one manifest. Other projects may involve better observability, stronger reliability, or helping a team evaluate and adopt a new technology. The main platform is AWS on EKS. GCP underpins the data and customer data platform work, and the remaining stack is Terraform, GitOps driven by Flux, and a Go backend.
The engineer would own AWS and EKS infrastructure starting from the VPC layer, write and ship infrastructure as code, and collaborate with security, product and data colleagues on their projects. The role also covers setting service level objectives and indicators, building monitoring, alerting and incident response processes, and measuring system health, scale and performance. Engineers run the services they build, backed by a voluntary on-call rotation shared across the team. The profile is an engineer who has gone deep on infrastructure and moved into code, or the other way round, and who wants wide ownership on a small team.
The team works from Sydney and is on site three days each week. The posting describes a scale-up with plenty of room to shape foundations, and says engineering relies heavily on AI, including in development and incident handling. Candidates are expected to scrutinise AI output carefully rather than simply adopt it quickly.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of AWS and EKS infrastructure and keep it evolving
- Write and ship infrastructure as code
- Set SLOs and SLIs and build monitoring, alerting and incident response processes

- Serve as technical owner of your services, including tech debt and new architecture patterns

Requirements
- Hands-on work on data reliability and observability, covering stale data, unexpected values and changing schemas
- Solid AWS knowledge, including EKS, Kubernetes, Lambda, networking and multi-AZ design
- Experience with Terraform, CI/CD and observability tooling
- Strong Go skills, or a proven ability to learn new languages fast
- Comfort using AI tools as part of development
- Experience owning on-call and a considered view on alert fatigue
- High ownership, openness and a pragmatic habit of fixing problems while systems are live
- A real example of a silent failure that changed how you approach your work
Qualifications
- Background in games, marketing technology, or consumer data at high volume
- Some work on consent platforms or migrations between identity systems
- Familiarity with how consent and authentication data are modelled, including identity resolution
