This on-site senior design role is based in Dubai and sits within the design systems work at Careem, a company building a single app for rides, food, groceries and payments across the wider Middle East. The lead is responsible for the token structure, component catalogue and documentation behind every product experience in the app, and for the system from creation through to retirement. The scope covers iOS, Android and web, as well as multiple locales including right-to-left Arabic. It is a hands-on senior individual contributor role that combines rigorous systems design with building AI tools, with the aim of making the system easier to adopt, maintain and use with AI agents.

The person should be able to create working processes that use large language models and agent-based tools, prototype in JavaScript or TypeScript, and manage design token pipelines. Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for design tokens, components and patterns across their whole life, from creation to retirement
- Set expectations for color, typography, spacing and interactive behavior on iOS, Android and web, including right-to-left layouts in Arabic
- Maintain a clear token architecture that settles unclear ownership
- Write and keep current the documentation that keeps components consistent with one another
- Treat accessibility under WCAG as a guarantee across the whole system, and manage that backlog with product and engineering
- Shape tokens and components so output from AI-led design-to-code and prompt-driven design stays on system
- Create and upkeep Code Connect links, MCP connections and machine-readable component details
- Introduce automated AI checks and linters that flag off-system components or misapplied tokens
- Build test versions of Figma plugins and agent-driven processes that cut routine design tasks
- Lead guild meetings and critique sessions, turning feedback from several verticals into ranked improvements
- Work with engineering on feasibility, and decide when component variants add too much complexity
Requirements
- Five or more years of product design work, including at least three years building design systems at scale
- Expert command of variables, token structure, component interfaces, library administration and branching
- Proven record of creating working processes with large language models and agent tooling, for example Figma Plugin API work, MCP integrations or prompt design
- Capacity to build quick prototypes in JavaScript, TypeScript and JSON, and to run token pipelines
- Skill at separating semantic intent from coincidental values and simplifying through unification
- Strong English for writing up and presenting ideas
Qualifications
- Experience with RTL or Arabic-first products, or with the Middle East market
- Hands-on background in live design-to-code pipelines, including Code Connect and token conversion
- Active involvement in the AI and design community through open-source work, speaking or writing
