Job Description
Grafana Labs is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its Search & Storage squad. The company builds Grafana Cloud, a fully managed observability platform utilized by thousands of organizations globally. Operating completely remotely across more than 40 countries, the enterprise centers its efforts on an open-source heritage, high autonomy, and collaborative culture. In this position, the engineer will help construct Grafana’s next-generation storage layer as part of the App Platform, contributing to Unified Storage, Search, and Folders features. This opportunity is well-suited for a self-motivated developer experienced in large distributed systems who thrives in a distributed, asynchronous work setting.
The role involves shaping product roadmaps, guiding projects from conception through production operations, and maintaining high availability and performance standards. Engineers participate in on-call rotations, mentor peers, and leverage modern AI coding assistants within a company-funded budget to accelerate prototyping and software delivery. Candidates must reside in Canada to be eligible for this remote posting.
Responsibilities
- Shape strategic roadmaps and personal career objectives
- Collaborate with teammates to ship new features and iteratively improve them
- Drive development initiatives from initial brainstorming to customer-facing operations
- Design, build, operate, and sustain reliable, performant, and available critical systems
- Participate in team on-call rotations to maintain owned services
- Mentor colleagues, engage in design conversations, and contribute across the broader engineering organization
- Contribute to open-source initiatives outside immediate squad duties
Requirements
- Demonstrated proficiency in Go, Rust, Python, or comparable programming languages
- Proven experience designing and working with large distributed systems
- Track record of driving projects from requirements gathering to product delivery independently
- Background in cloud software development or systems engineering
- Capability to write clean, maintainable, and robust software
- Strong communication skills and an independent attitude suited for a remote-first setup
Qualifications
- Prior hands-on operational usage of Grafana and Prometheus
- Familiarity with on-call duties, SRE tasks, or infrastructure-as-code concepts
