Job Description
Careem is hiring a Senior Software Engineer I for its Quick and Shops team in Lahore. The team runs the consumer-app backend for two fast-growing verticals, supporting what customers see from browsing through to checkout. The job is full-time and on site, with four office days a week for full-time staff.
The engineer would take full ownership of backend areas and build dependable, scalable services in Golang. That includes REST APIs, service-to-service links and configuration-driven gateway systems, along with the data models and catalogue systems behind the product verticals. The role also covers event-driven systems built on Kafka with Avro schema evolution, help keep AWS building blocks such as storage, CDN, DNS and certificates running, and on-call rotations for diagnosing production issues across distributed platforms.
Beyond individual delivery, the engineer would mentor junior colleagues, lead technical conversations spanning several teams, work closely with mobile engineers to smooth the customer experience, and use AI-assisted development tools in day-to-day work.
The posting makes clear that entry-level candidates are not the target and asks for mid-band or higher backend experience. Strong hands-on Go is preferred, though those with deep experience in Java, Kotlin, C# or C++ may be considered if they can show they will ramp up quickly. Building products used directly by customers, working independently on hard problems, and communicating clearly are all expected.

- Knowledge of server-driven UI approaches
