Job Description
This is a full-time, on-site Senior Software Engineer role in London working on Go backend services. The position is placed in the Support Engineering group, which produces high-performance admin applications and operational tooling for customer, courier and merchant support staff. As the operation expands from 30 to 60 countries, the tools need to expand with it.
The group's in-house chat platform processes around five million conversations every month, and it is being extended with features that reduce manual work, improve messaging and fix issues proactively. The senior engineer builds and maintains high-throughput backend services, designs systems that can expand, absorb faults and remain easy to care for, and leads architecture debates and technical choices.
The role involves partnering with product, design and frontend colleagues to put tools in front of support agents worldwide. Producing well-tested code and helping the team keep quality high are part of the work, along with coaching others and setting good practice.
The posting asks for at least seven years of professional engineering work, including two or more years of production Go and a record of building complex systems. Strong practical SQL and NoSQL experience, particularly with Cassandra, and grounding in low-latency distributed systems are needed. Candidates should have worked on call and take a level-headed approach to reliability. Background in Node.js or another server-side language, familiarity with AWS or GCP, and experience with event-driven architectures are useful.
