Job Description
Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Retail DEX team within the Consumer and Business group. This remote position focuses on running the data and trading systems that power decentralized exchange trading inside the primary application. The engineer will bridge off-chain and onchain environments to provide a unified trading experience for millions of users accessing over 70 million tokens across networks like Solana and Base. The role requires participation in quarterly in-person working sessions known as surges.
This position is well-suited for an experienced backend engineer who specializes in high-throughput data pipelines, smart contract integration, and agentic-first development patterns. Coinbase operates as an equal opportunity employer.
Responsibilities
- Integrate decentralized exchanges, launchpads, and new blockchains into the main application
- Design and build first-party smart contracts for DEX aggregation and advanced order types
- Scale real-time data pipelines to process over 100,000 messages per second with millisecond latency
- Optimize the trading architecture end-to-end for speed, execution quality, and asset coverage
- Drive agentic-first development practices to create self-improving software systems
Requirements
- Five or more years of backend software engineering experience with production data systems or data pipelines
- Experience designing data-intensive systems with infrastructure such as Kafka, Clickhouse, Starrocks, Temporal, and Redis
- Experience designing and integrating with onchain smart contracts on Solana or EVM networks like Ethereum and Base
- Demonstrated ability to build and improve agentic-first code repositories in production
- Experience utilizing generative AI responsibly while maintaining human oversight
