Zoox's 3D Sensor Simulation team is hiring a Senior or Staff Machine Learning Engineer to make simulated lidar, radar and camera data more realistic for training and testing autonomous vehicle AI. The role designs and validates ML models, combines 3D reconstruction with sensor simulation, and builds training datasets. It is a full-time, hybrid position in the San Francisco Bay Area, suited to engineers with strong PyTorch or TensorFlow experience and sensor data work.
Responsibilities
- Design, train and validate ML models that make simulated lidar, radar and camera data more realistic
- Integrate 3D Gaussian splatting and NeRF-based reconstruction with sensor simulation
- Build and curate training datasets from real and simulated sensor data, including GenAI augmentation
- Define sensor realism metrics with Sim V&V and perception engineers, and mentor engineers and interns
Requirements
- At least five years developing ML models in Python with PyTorch or TensorFlow
- Industry experience applying ML to sensor data such as lidar, radar or cameras
- Solid understanding of customizing, tuning and validating ML training pipelines
- At least two years of prior experience as a technical lead
Qualifications
- Experience with generative techniques such as diffusion, flow matching or VAEs
- Experience with 3D reconstruction (3DGS, NeRFs) or differentiable rendering
- Prior experience developing autonomy for AVs, robotics or computer vision
