The person in this role will drive the design and delivery of major platform components from initial concept through production operations. Key duties include acting as a technical lead for significant initiatives, collaborating with principal engineering staff to align with architectural standards, addressing technical risks proactively, and maintaining hands-on involvement with software development, infrastructure automation, and platform services. Additionally, the position involves mentoring junior and mid-level personnel to elevate overall engineering quality across the organization.
Candidates must bring fourteen or more years of professional experience building large-scale distributed systems and managing production-grade cloud-native environments. The job requires strong software engineering capabilities in Go, deep knowledge of Kubernetes architecture and operators, and experience managing both self-managed and managed Kubernetes implementations such as EKS, AKS, and GKE. Familiarity with public cloud providers like AWS, Azure, or GCP, along with GitOps workflows, infrastructure-as-code tools, and container technologies, is essential.

Responsibilities
- Lead the creation and deployment of cloud-native platform components and services throughout their entire lifecycle
- Serve as technical lead for major team initiatives by turning ambiguous requests into executable and scalable designs
- Collaborate with Principal and Distinguished Engineers to guarantee consistency with long-term technical strategy and platform architecture
- Mitigate technical risks early with an emphasis on reliability, scalability, and operational excellence
- Write, review, and design core systems including Kubernetes controllers, operators, and platform automation
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, design evaluations, and technical guidance
Requirements
- 14 or more years of professional experience in designing and running large-scale distributed systems and cloud-native platforms
- Proven background building and managing Kubernetes platform infrastructure at scale
- Hands-on expertise developing Kubernetes operators or platform extensions with tools like Kubebuilder or Operator Framework
- Experience running both self-managed and managed Kubernetes environments including EKS, AKS, and GCP
- Strong programming skills in Go for creating Kubernetes controllers, custom resource definitions, and automation
- Familiarity with public cloud services on AWS, Azure, or GCP covering compute, networking, security, and identity management
- Experience with microservices, event-driven systems, containers, CI/CD, GitOps, and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or Crossplane
Qualifications
- Experience with container networking and service meshes
- Familiarity with mTLS, workload identity, and secrets management at fleet scale
- Background in configuring observability metrics, tracing, and service-level objectives
- Experience designing or tuning distributed data and compute workloads on Kubernetes
- Familiarity with Apache Kafka high-scale clusters and Redis high-scale clusters
- Knowledge of data formats including Parquet, ORC, and Avro along with compaction strategies
