The company is currently hiring a remote Staff Machine Learning Engineer - VoIP Infrastructure to focus on telephony platforms, VoIP infrastructure, and observability tools supporting AI-powered voice workloads. This position suits an experienced engineer capable of bridging telecommunications and artificial intelligence by integrating large language models into real-time communication systems. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with product, infrastructure, and engineering teams to guarantee that voice and AI platforms scale reliably and operate efficiently across SIP/RTP, Kamailio, RTPEngine, and related telecom architectures. Responsibilities include building scalable and clean code, participating in site reliability engineering improvements, managing deployment activities, and mentoring colleagues across artificial intelligence and telecom disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design, implementation, and development of telephony platforms, VoIP infrastructure, and observability features for AI-driven voice workloads
- Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and engineering teams to ensure voice and AI platforms scale reliably and integrate across telecom systems like SIP/RTP, Kamailio, and RTPEngine
- Improve site reliability engineering practices by translating operational telephony and AI workload use cases into software tooling requirements
- Execute deployment and support activities for VoIP systems and AI/ML developers in production voice environments
- Write scalable, clean, and reusable code while enforcing software engineering best practices including unit testing and code reviews
- Partner with product owners to manage code ownership from design and implementation through test automation and delivery across infrastructure and LLM integration layers
- Mentor colleagues and promote knowledge sharing across telecom and AI engineering disciplines
Requirements
- Hands-on experience building VoIP systems utilizing SIP/RTP protocols
- Practical knowledge of RTPEngine, Kamailio, FreeSWITCH, session border controllers, and PSTN systems
- Working knowledge of PSTN infrastructure and telecom protocols
- Experience integrating applications on top of existing large language models
- Experience in prompt engineering and developing LLM-based features
- At least 4 years of development experience with languages such as Python, GoLang, or Java
- At least 4 years of experience operating highly available distributed workloads on Kubernetes using a DevOps approach
- Working experience in building distributed systems utilizing cloud-native software
Qualifications
- Experience with software-defined networking, infrastructure as code, and configuration management
- Experience with DevOps tooling such as Helm, Ansible, Prometheus, Splunk, or GitLab CI
- Experience building software for compliance and security within regulated environments
- At least 4 years of experience with infrastructure and platform operations, deployments, site reliability engineering, and DevOps focused on platform health
