SEEK has an opening for a Senior Threat Detection Analyst in a multidisciplinary security group. The primary duties are external threat intelligence and insider-risk work, with opportunities to take on threat hunting, detection engineering, purple team exercises and other priority projects. Because the group develops cross-specialty skill, members gain experience well beyond their primary area.
The role is full time and on-site in Melbourne, though applicants living in Sydney or Brisbane are also considered. Typical work includes investigating internal and outside dangers, writing threat assessments and briefing executives about trends and attacker methods, handling insider-risk cases, and gathering intelligence from open-source, proprietary and industry channels. The analyst also tunes alerts, assists responders during incidents, advises on geopolitical and travel hazards, and coaches fellow security staff.
Applicants should have at least five years in security, intelligence or national security roles, plus a relevant bachelor's degree. Log analysis and investigation skill across endpoint, email and SIEM tooling, familiarity with MITRE ATT&CK and advanced persistent threat groups, and fluency in at least one scripting language are required. Recognized SANS credentials and incident response or forensic experience are valued though not compulsory.
Responsibilities
- Carry out in-depth research on internal and external dangers, produce threat assessments and brief leaders on emerging risks.
- Process and investigate insider-risk cases and present results to senior management.
- Gather and evaluate threat information from open-source and other channels, checking sources while keeping operations secure.
- Keep intelligence requirements current in line with what stakeholders need.
- Watch and sort security alerts, refine detection logic, and assist responders and operations staff during incidents.
- Contribute to threat hunting and suggest stronger controls.
- Provide guidance on geopolitical developments and international travel risk.
- Help with forensic imaging when investigations require it.
- Create intelligence metrics and locate automation opportunities.
- Foster contacts with industry peers and mentor colleagues in security.
Requirements
- At least five years in security, intelligence or national security roles, plus a bachelor's degree in computing, software engineering, IT, national security, intelligence or similar.
- Strong problem solving and investigation skills for threat detection, insider cases and intelligence work, including hands-on log review across endpoint, email filtering, SIEM and similar tools.
- Strong grounding in the MITRE ATT&CK framework and in APT actor methods.
- Disciplined incident response background and sound grounding in detection and hunting.
- Knowledge of the geopolitical environment and the security exposure it creates, able to advise travelers.
- Working proficiency in at least one scripting or coding language.
- Leadership skills: mentoring, explaining complex technical matters to executives, and writing security strategy, policy and process documents.
Qualifications
- Incident response, forensic and malware reverse engineering skills (strongly favored, not required).
- SANS certifications such as GCTI, GCFA or GEIR.
- Working knowledge of DevOps settings.
- Use of automation and AI tooling to improve security operations and intelligence output.
- Visible involvement in the security community through talks, conferences and knowledge sharing.
