Coinbase is seeking a Software Engineer, CDP - Foundations for a remote-first position to help advance its mission of increasing economic freedom. The role sits within the CDP Foundations team inside the Developer group, which consists of three pods: Portal and Platform Services, Custodial Foundations, and Fully Disclosed Onboarding and Eligibility. This team manages foundational experiences and primitives, such as the developer portal, shared customer services, custodial accounts and taxes, and KYC/KYB onboarding and eligibility APIs. The engineer will design and ship backend services and APIs that allow businesses to easily and securely access crypto infrastructure.
This opportunity is ideal for a developer with production backend experience who wants to build core platform capabilities. The company operates in an intense, remote-first environment where employees gather quarterly for in-person working sessions known as surges. Qualified candidates must have professional experience with microservices or distributed systems and API design. Responsibilities
- Build, deploy, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performing backend services utilizing a microservices and distributed architecture.
- Define internal and customer-facing APIs prioritizing clean design and strong developer experience.
- Manage the end-to-end delivery of features spanning implementation, deployment, and monitoring.
- Address technical debt proactively and drive improvements in operational reliability and observability.
- Take part in code reviews, handle on-call rotations, and lead incident response while fostering high code quality standards.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of professional background building and maintaining production backend services within a microservices or distributed systems environment.
- Experience designing and shipping internal or customer-facing APIs focused on developer experience and clean interface design.
- Familiarity with deploying and testing inside microservice ecosystems, including structured observability and monitoring tools.
- Demonstrated ability to clearly articulate technical trade-offs through writing and live discussions with cross-functional partners.
- Ability to responsibly apply generative AI tools and copilots in daily workflows while maintaining human oversight.
