Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer II, Backend (Decisions Orchestration) to join its remote team on a full-time basis. Affirm operates as a financial services provider focused on offering predictable, transparent payment methods with no unexpected fees or concealed charges. In this position, the professional will contribute to building the upcoming iteration of the Checkout Platform, creating financial offerings that deliver enhanced accessibility and flexibility to users.

Team members design and execute microservice interfaces and APIs to oversee user transactions, while simultaneously working to enhance system reliability and performance.
The company maintains a remote-first work environment, allowing staff members to operate from approved regions within Canada, specifically Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan. Selected candidates may occasionally be asked to attend an in-person onboarding session.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute forward-looking approaches alongside technical leaders to solve large-scale problems beyond the immediate team
- Assume active ownership over checkout system components, ensuring the long-term health of those systems and surrounding architecture
- Collaborate with internal and external engineers to develop the next generation checkout platform
- Learn and refine engineering tooling, standards, and processes throughout the checkout platform
- Develop, test, and deliver high-quality software at scale
Requirements
- Proficiency in Python and Kotlin
- Experience using RPC, Redis, MySQL, AWS, and Github
- Ability to communicate clearly in both written and verbal formats
- Residency in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan
