Job Description

Paddle is hiring a full-time Software Engineer for its Platform Site Reliability Engineering team. Paddle acts as Merchant of Record for digital product companies, taking on payments, tax and payouts so software sellers do not have to stitch together their own payment stack. The role is remote, although Paddle also operates hubs. The SRE group sits within the Platform function and sets reliability standards and operating practices for product teams across the company.

The engineer creates tooling that makes other engineers more productive, such as automating deployments and database upgrades. Developer experience is a primary goal, so the engineer looks for manual steps that can be automated. Other duties include building, testing and maintaining disaster recovery procedures, responding to production incidents, writing blameless postmortems, and keeping runbooks current.

The job also covers monitoring, alerting and service level objective tracking as hands-on reliability work. The engineer carries out performance investigations, including load testing and bottleneck analysis, and leads cost reduction across ECS Fargate, Aurora, RDS, SQS and observability tooling. GitOps practice is encouraged. Engineers may choose from a range of AI tools for daily tasks, and the company supports reasonable experiments within clear guardrails.

The technology in use spans Go for newer services and PHP Laravel for the older platform, with Aurora MySQL and PostgreSQL holding data. Operations rely on Docker, ECS Fargate, SQS, EventBridge, Redis and Terraform, while Honeycomb, OpenTelemetry and Cloudflare cover monitoring and edge work.

A strong candidate has spent real time shipping and operating production systems and brings disciplined habits around tests, reviews, pipelines and debugging. They have worked across AWS alongside solution architects, understand networking and Linux administration, and have handled microservices and distributed systems in practice.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain engineering tooling, including automation for deployments and database upgrades
  • Hunt for manual processes to automate, with developer experience as the main driver
  • Create, test and keep up the disaster recovery process and its tooling
  • Respond to production incidents, write blameless postmortems and improve runbooks
  • Run monitoring, alerting and SLO tracking as hands-on reliability work
  • Run load tests and hunt bottlenecks, then tune services, databases and queues
  • Lead cost reduction across ECS Fargate, Aurora, RDS, SQS and observability
  • Encourage GitOps practice across product teams

Requirements

  • A strong software development background, including shipping and operating production services
  • Dependable skills in test writing, peer review, pipeline automation and troubleshooting
  • Experience working on AWS alongside solution architects and specialists
  • Knowledge of networking and Linux administration
  • Hands-on time with service-oriented architectures and systems spread across many machines
  • A security-minded, collaborative and detail-focused working style

Qualifications

  • Interest in how AI is reshaping software development
  • Experience with OpenTelemetry, Honeycomb, Grafana, Pingdom or Incident.io

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Unlimited holidays
  • Four months of family leave with pay, available to every gender
  • Yearly funding for learning plus ongoing courses, both in-house and external
  • Remote working, hub-based working, or a blend of both
