Job Description
Canonical is looking for people proficient in Python, packaging and Linux to improve everyday work for the many people who publish snaps, rocks and charms. The team builds and maintains specialist Python tools that help developers build and release their software. Its responsibilities include the tooling for snaps, charms and rocks, which are the packaging formats for apps, charmed operators and container images.
Snapcraft lets developers push application updates automatically to millions of Linux machines, which removes the long tail of old releases and complicated install steps. Charmcraft supports the community of charmed operator authors and publication on Charmhub. Rockcraft gives container developers a way to build production-grade Ubuntu images with an opinionated, security-focused design and a consistent experience across all rocks. This post fits people curious about packaging formats, build tooling and the automation that delivers software to users.

Familiarity with build tooling and toolchains, cross-compilation included, is required, and experience with container platforms like Docker, Kubernetes or LXD is expected. Engineers will apply their knowledge of languages, toolchains, frameworks and CI systems to grow the snap ecosystem, and will talk with outside upstream and vendor-backed projects to see how the tools can serve those communities more effectively.
