Coinbase is seeking a Software Engineer, Security Platform to join its remote-first team on a full-time basis. Coinbase focuses on increasing economic freedom and operates in an environment where security is a primary competitive differentiator. Because Coinbase holds substantial amounts of digital currency, it is a prominent target on the internet, making protection critical for users and the platform.
In this position, you will operate within the Security Platform Engineering organization to create platform capabilities supporting compliance, privacy, and security. Functional areas include secrets and key management, identity access and management, onchain security, policy and risk management, and vulnerability management. The role involves designing scalable systems, building new services, and establishing technical structure for teams using modern cloud technology and Golang or Java.
The role suits engineers with a background in building production services and a passion for open financial systems. Team members are expected to collaborate with management, stakeholders, designers, product managers, and senior leadership. While the position is remote, Coinbase requires employees to gather quarterly for in-person working sessions known as surges. Responsibilities
- Architect and develop platform capabilities for the security platform engineering organization
- Collaborate with management and stakeholders to define strategic roadmaps and provide technical structure
- Build new services using Golang or Java to meet business and product needs
- Design scalable systems leveraging modern cloud technology and industry best practices
- Manage individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables
- Mentor and train team members regarding design techniques and coding standards
- Formulate a long-term vision for scaling and maintaining backend systems and teams
- Partner with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to establish quarterly roadmaps
- Write well-tested, high-quality code
- Debug challenging technical problems to improve deployment, ownership, operation, and diagnosis
- Review cross-cutting feature designs across the company for security, safety, scale, operational integrity, and architectural clarity
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in software engineering
- Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services with service-oriented architecture
- Ability to write well-tested, high-quality code
- Strong technical skills in system design and coding
- Written and verbal communication skills with a bias toward open, transparent cultural practices
- Ability to utilize generative AI responsibly with human oversight
