In this capacity, the professional will serve as a technical expert partnering with Sales and Customer Engineering teams throughout pre-sales and post-sales phases. The role involves leading technical discovery sessions, outlining proof of value timelines, and building data migration plans for the PostgreSQL and Vitess platforms. The selected candidate will analyze performance metrics, recommend architectural sizing, create automation tools, and author educational resources like blog posts and guides while collaborating closely with Engineering and Product departments.
Ideal candidates possess extensive database operational knowledge, client-facing technical experience, and programming capabilities in languages such as Python, Go, or JavaScript. The position requires occasional travel under twenty percent.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Sales and Customer Engineering during pre-sales and post-sales processes as a technical authority
- Lead technical discovery sessions to align customer goals with platform offerings
- Plan and execute proof of value timelines tied to agreed success criteria
- Design database migration strategies and assist customers hands-on with platform migrations
- Evaluate workloads and recommend optimal architecture, sizing, and performance strategies
- Develop scripts and automation tooling to streamline customer onboarding and migrations
- Produce educational materials such as documentation, tutorials, workshops, and video content
- Coordinate with Product and Engineering teams to represent customer interests and guide platform development
Requirements
- Minimum five years of production experience in operations, performance tuning, and troubleshooting for MySQL or PostgreSQL OR five years advising customers on MySQL or PostgreSQL workload operations
- Background working alongside at least one primary cloud provider including AWS, GCP, Azure, or OCI
- Demonstrated achievement in client-facing technical positions like Solutions Architect, Technical Account Manager, or Sales Engineer
- Familiarity with database migration tools and methodology
- Competence in conducting architecture reviews, capacity planning, and performance evaluations
- Programming capability in Go, Python, or JavaScript to build scripts and tools
- Experience writing technical content including guides, documentation, or tutorials
- Willingness to travel occasionally up to twenty percent
Qualifications
- Familiarity with AWS Database Migration Service or logical replication utilities
- Understanding of Vitess, database sharding, and distributed database architectures
- Knowledge of Kubernetes and cloud-native application setups
- Experience utilizing infrastructure-as-code platforms such as Terraform or CloudFormation
- History of contributing to open-source software or engaging with database user groups
- Background in public speaking at conferences or industry meetups
