The company is currently hiring a Senior Counsel for Compliance and Investigations to join its legal team in San Francisco. This position operates on-site approximately one to three times per year for in-person collaboration, though it is categorized as a remote-eligible role based anywhere in the country.
The person stepping into this role will direct the organization's compliance and ethics initiatives, spearheading the internal investigations program. Key responsibilities include overseeing sensitive internal reviews, partnering with cross-functional departments like Human Resources and Security, and presenting data and findings to senior leadership and the Board of Directors. The ideal professional brings substantial investigative experience, strong analytical capabilities, and familiarity with global whistleblower regulations.
Selected candidates will receive a base salary range between $158,765 and $326,870 USD, with final compensation depending on factors such as geographic location, travel requirements, relevant skills, and past experience. In addition to base pay, the position is eligible for equity.
Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end compliance investigations process and oversee the global compliance investigations portfolio
- Lead sensitive and confidential internal investigations while collaborating with cross-functional groups including Human Resources, Employment Legal, Finance, and Security
- Analyze root causes, provide recommendations for investigation outcomes, and suggest remedial actions or program enhancements
- Refine investigation procedures, maintain program materials, mentor junior or contract investigators, and apply technology or AI solutions
- Deliver updates regarding trends and findings to internal stakeholders, senior management, and the Board of Directors
- Foster a speak-up corporate culture while adhering to global whistleblower laws and regulations
- Respond to law enforcement inquiries, subpoenas, external investigations, and requests for information during audits
- Deliver legal counsel on regulatory matters, conflicts of interest, third-party due diligence, and audits
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited United States law school
- Minimum of 7 years of experience conducting complex and sensitive investigations
- Active membership in at least one state bar with the capability to provide legal services from the state of residence
- Demonstrated analytical skills along with verbal and written communication abilities
- Experience working independently in a fast-paced environment while managing a high-volume workload
Qualifications
- Prior experience working at a top law firm or within an in-house legal and compliance department
- At least 3 years of experience focusing on employment law
- Background providing legal guidance on compliance issues such as conflict of interest, incident management, and third-party audits
- Experience constructing compliance programs and driving change management initiatives
- Familiarity with the structural requirements of an effective compliance program for a publicly traded, global enterprise
