Job Description
Dialpad is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to oversee its core calling experience, encompassing the frontend, backend, and hardware devices such as desk phones, Room Phones, ATAs, and DECT solutions. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, this leadership position guides senior engineers across global offices while remaining hands-on with code delivery during the initial phase. The person in this position will operate at the intersection of real-time audio engineering—utilizing WebRTC and SIP—and contact center depth, helping reshape customer experience platforms with AI-native tools and agentic workflows.
This opportunity is well-suited for a technical leader experienced in real-time communications and cloud-native architectures who enjoys guiding multi-disciplinary teams through large-scale migrations and architectural evolution. Dialpad builds AI-powered customer intelligence and communication tools that combine human and autonomous agents onto a single platform. Market-leading enterprises utilize these systems to manage voice and digital interactions efficiently.
The role requires establishing long-term product roadmaps alongside product partners, scaling hardware ecosystems, and championing AI-assisted development practices. Candidates will collaborate closely with distributed engineering managers, technical leads, product managers, designers, and support staff to guarantee robust system reliability, rigorous service-level objectives, and continuous feature delivery without service interruptions.

- Oversee major engineering projects from initial requirements gathering and resource planning through execution and delivery
- Direct the calling frontend ecosystem to maintain a seamless user experience for human and AI agents working together
- Guide the calling backend through a multi-year architectural transition involving containerized, event-driven microservices with zero downtime for active calls
- Expand and support hardware device integrations including desk phones, room phones, ATAs, and DECT solutions
- Assess technical designs and architectural proposals to ensure proper scalability and alignment with evolving business needs
- Partner with distributed peers across engineering, product, design, and support to coordinate engineering-wide priorities
- Drive AI-native development practices by utilizing frontier models and coding agents to accelerate production-level output
- Participate directly in code reviews, technical implementations, and design discussions when necessary
- Actively recruit diverse talent to scale the engineering organization
Requirements

- Proficiency in contact center domain knowledge such as routing, queues, and IVRs
- Full-stack technical fluency with modern JavaScript frameworks like Vue 3 with TypeScript, alongside Python or backend Java
- Experience working with cloud-native architectures involving microservices, containerization, and orchestration
- Track record of evolving high-traffic production systems by breaking down monoliths, defining SLOs, and running safe migrations
- Demonstrated ability to identify, diagnose, and resolve performance and scalability obstacles
- Hands-on familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and coding agents
