The publicly traded company (NYSE: HIMS) is currently hiring a Senior Staff Platform Engineer for a remote, full-time position with a salary range of $250,000 to $280,000 per year.
This position represents the highest individual contributor level on the platform team. The person in this role will establish technical direction rather than merely building inside the platform, taking ownership of critical cross-organization infrastructure initiatives such as service mesh deployments, multi-region resilience strategies, and AI-enabled service catalogs. The ideal candidate combines deep hands-on technical execution in code and infrastructure with significant organizational influence.
Daily duties involve managing multi-quarter programs, designing golden paths and platform primitives for other engineers, resolving complex production incidents, and driving architecture across business units without direct authority. This position also oversees testing infrastructure strategy, mentors senior staff, and leads technical debt reduction and cost optimization.
Responsibilities
- Manage group-critical platform initiatives spanning multiple quarters and business units
- Define architectural patterns, golden paths, and platform primitives for other engineers
- Maintain hands-on involvement in complex system components, production debugging, and migration tooling
- Drive execution across boundaries by coordinating resources and resolving systemic blockers
- Establish end-to-end testing infrastructure strategy, iteration environments, and pre-production confidence gates
- Mentor senior and staff engineers on system design and navigating organizational ambiguity
- Lead infrastructure consolidations, dependency upgrades, and large-scale migrations
- Define and track leading indicators such as adoption rates, incident trends, cost trajectories, and developer sentiment
Requirements
- Minimum of 12 years of professional experience in platform, infrastructure, DevOps, or site reliability engineering roles
- Demonstrated ownership of at least one initiative spanning multiple teams or business units
- Production-proven expertise with Kubernetes and Amazon EKS
- Extensive experience with service mesh technology, particularly Istio, including mTLS, traffic shaping, sidecar architecture, and multi-cluster rollouts
- Strong proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform at scale
- Track record of guiding complex, multi-quarter technical programs from architectural design through execution
- Background in debugging distributed multi-hop systems, proxy layer failures, and auth issues
- Proficiency in at least one programming language among Go, Python, TypeScript, and Java
- Proven ability to influence engineering organizations without direct authority
Qualifications
- Familiarity with AI-native platform tooling, agentic tooling, and Model Context Protocol backed APIs
- Experience leading large-scale cost or infrastructure consolidation initiatives
- Background in multi-region or high-availability architecture, recovery point and time objectives, and service level objective definition
- Experience authoring requests for comments and leadership-facing technical proposals
