This is a design-focused role reporting to the Director of Web UX Design based in the United States. The position is eligible for remote work, but the selected candidate must reside in Costa Rica. The role suits a self-sufficient problem solver who enjoys managing projects of varying sizes through close collaboration with a globally distributed, asynchronous engineering team.
The successful candidate will champion human-centered methodologies to create intuitive experiences for website visitors and customers alike. Key responsibilities include designing user journeys, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes, as well as contributing to the maintenance of the web design system. The role requires direct work in Jira alongside developers, following tickets from inception to launch, reviewing staging builds, and utilizing AI-assisted or design-to-code tools to streamline production.
Responsibilities
- Design user journeys, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes for web pages and components
- Contribute components and patterns to the web design system and maintain documentation
- Prepare clear specifications, redlines, and handoff documentation for a distributed engineering team
- Work directly in Jira to track design tickets through to completion and shipping
- Review live branches and staging builds to resolve visual and functional mismatches prior to launch
- Collaborate with the research lead to conduct user research
- Design and build conversion-focused web pages on a staging branch within the CMS
- Leverage AI-assisted and design-to-code tools to expedite handoff and minimize manual tasks
- Communicate design rationale to stakeholders and incorporate feedback
- Partner with engineers, web authors, TPMs, and web strategists to deliver accessible experiences
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience designing web or product experiences in a CMS-driven or component-based environment
- Experience preparing detailed specifications and redlines for engineering handoffs in an asynchronous setting
- Familiarity working directly in Jira or a similar ticketing system with a development team
- Understanding of design systems, tokens, and component libraries
- Knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards and web design application
- Strong visual design skills focusing on detail, hierarchy, typography, color, and layout
- High proficiency in Figma and strong interaction design and prototyping skills
- Basic understanding of HTML and CSS
- Experience incorporating AI tools into a daily design workflow
- Residency in Costa Rica
Qualifications
- Degree in Design or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- A portfolio demonstrating strong UI and UX craft
- Familiarity with Adobe design tools such as Illustrator and Photoshop
- Experience with motion design via Adobe After Effects or Lottie
- Familiarity with front-end development concepts or a front-end coding background
- Experience utilizing AI-assisted and generative design tools such as Figma Make or Lovable
