Job Description
This Staff Data Analyst role sits within Salla's data organisation. It is a senior individual contributor position, so the work is not drawn from a fixed queue of tasks. The analyst partners with leadership to decide which company-level problems merit attention, converts vague briefs into concrete problems and leads the analysis that moves revenue and profitability figures.
The remit crosses several domains and product lines. The analyst technically guides other analysts, carries complete ownership, from start to finish, of wide-ranging data products and business questions, and manages upward, downward and across stakeholders. Success is measured by the decisions the analyst changes and by the skills the analyst develops in others.
Responsibilities include recommending clear actions instead of laying out a menu of options, shaping the domain's roadmap through persuasive analysis, and assembling coalitions that clear the way for delivery. The analyst co-owns key metrics with stakeholders and data peers, sets data quality standards and defines metric layers. Each analysis must account for outliers, thin samples, imbalances, gaps and corrupted records, and must document assumptions, caveats, significance and confidence ranges so readers do not misread it.
The listing asks for a bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline or equivalent practical experience, at least five years in analytics with work that changed material decisions, expert SQL, and strong Python for analysis. It also requires advanced BI and semantic-layer experience aimed at self-service. Background in e-commerce, marketplaces or fintech, plus knowledge of dbt and ClickHouse or BigQuery, counts in the candidate's favour. No salary is stated.
Responsibilities
- Work with leadership to identify company-level problems worth solving, with a direct effect on revenue and profitability
- Lead strategic initiatives that span several domains and product lines
- Carry full ownership of wide-ranging data products and business questions, start to finish
- Recommend clear actions and decisions to business and product stakeholders
- Shape the domain roadmap by persuading stakeholders with analytical evidence
- Build coalitions of stakeholders to clear obstacles to delivery
- Co-own key metrics, data quality standards and metric layers with stakeholders and data peers
- Check data for outliers, sparse samples, imbalance and missing values, and document caveats
- Coach junior colleagues and those at mid-level
Requirements
- Undergraduate training in a numbers-heavy subject (statistics, maths, computing, engineering or similar), or comparable hands-on experience
- At least five years in analytics, with a record of work that changed material business decisions
- Top-tier SQL skills, window functions included, plus experience with huge analytical stores
- Strong Python for analysis, using pandas, NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn and visualisation libraries
- Deep background in BI tooling and semantic layers, aimed at self-service rather than building reports on demand
- Proven knack for swaying senior decision-makers when you hold no formal power, plus the nerve to defend findings under pressure
- Evidence of technically guiding or mentoring other analysts
- Clear written and spoken communication for executive audiences
Qualifications
- Background in online retail, marketplace or fintech settings with heavy transaction volume
- Comfort with current warehouse and transformation stacks, including dbt and column-store engines like ClickHouse or BigQuery
- Hands-on work with per-event analytics and tracking design
- Experience supporting pricing, monetisation or revenue modelling
- Practical familiarity with source control and peer code review as applied to analysis code
