Job Description
Mozilla is seeking a remote, full-time Staff Operations Engineer to oversee the design, uptime, and growth of its hybrid-cloud and workplace infrastructure. The role is senior and spans multiple teams, yet it remains hands-on with the systems that matter most.
In an assigned infrastructure area, the engineer defines architecture, establishes patterns, and shapes technical direction over a span of roughly six to eighteen months. Tasks include driving high-stakes projects that carry ambiguity, such as system moves, redesigns, and efforts to boost speed and dependability. The engineer coordinates with IT, site reliability, security, and service owners so that solutions fit together across offices, data centers, and cloud platforms.
Dependability duties cover sharpening monitoring and alerting, contributing to service-level targets and capacity planning, and directing root-cause investigations of complicated outages. The engineer also replaces manual chores with automation and infrastructure-as-code, keeps runbooks and architecture diagrams current, and coaches colleagues through design reviews and troubleshooting sessions.
Applicants should bring at least six years in systems or infrastructure engineering, including experience running production environments and deep knowledge of at least one specialty. Core expertise is expected in VMware, Cisco UCS, load balancing at the application and network layers, Linux or Unix, and data center operations, plus networking fundamentals.
Useful extras include infrastructure-as-code with Puppet or Ansible, Python, monitoring tools, containers, and secure infrastructure design. Bonus areas are GitHub Enterprise administration, managing user access, single sign-on and SCIM provisioning, and enforcing policy. Benefits include performance bonuses, medical, dental, and vision coverage, retirement contributions that vest immediately, wellness days, a learning budget, and parental leave. No salary is stated.

- Strengthen monitoring, alerting, and operational design, and run root-cause investigations after major incidents
- Cut manual operational work with automation scripts and infrastructure-as-code definitions
- Keep documentation, diagrams, and runbooks accurate, and mentor engineers through reviews
Requirements
- At least six years in systems engineering or infrastructure work
- Solid record designing and running production infrastructure
- Deep working knowledge of VMware, Cisco UCS, application and network load balancers, and Linux or Unix
- Working command of DNS, TCP/IP, routing, firewalls, and data center environments
- History of leading complex technical efforts that involve several teams
Qualifications
- Infrastructure-as-code experience with Puppet, Ansible, or similar tools
- Python scripting, plus working knowledge of monitoring tools and reliability methods
- Container and platform tooling experience, plus security awareness in infrastructure design
- GitHub Enterprise administration, SSO and SCIM integration, and policy enforcement
