Pindrop seeks a Staff Software Engineer to join the Authentication team on a remote, full-time basis. In this individual contributor role, you will shape the technical direction and cloud infrastructure behind Passport, driving multi-quarter initiatives focused on scalability, performance, security, and reliability. Pindrop is a cybersecurity firm offering continuous identity verification across voice, video, and digital interactions to help enterprises detect fraud, synthetic media, and unknown risks.
This position is ideal for a systems thinker who enjoys working with ambiguity and leading high-impact projects without direct people-management responsibilities. You will collaborate closely with research, test, product, and engineering groups to define architectural standards across cloud-native environments, guide technical trade-offs, and mentor team members. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in backend engineering, hands-on experience with languages like Go and Python, and a strong background in operating distributed cloud services on platforms such as AWS or GCP.
Responsibilities
- Formulate and guide the technical strategy and architectural vision for Passport cloud services
- Drive complex initiatives from initial concept through deployment and operational follow-through utilizing Go and Python
- Establish reusable patterns and technical benchmarks for AWS and GCP cloud-native infrastructure
- Balance technical trade-offs involving latency, security, scalability, reliability, cost, and speed to market
- Anticipate architectural issues and implement mitigations before they impact system stability or delivery timelines
- Collaborate across product, test, research, and software engineering departments to align on roadmaps
- Lead design reviews and foster consensus regarding architectural decisions and ownership boundaries
- Handle critical incident responses and translate operational findings into improved runbooks and observability tools
- Provide technical mentorship, guidance, and code review support to elevate team effectiveness
- Contribute to the team on-call schedule, including covering after-hours alerts
Requirements
- At least 8 years of professional software development background creating APIs and backend services
- Demonstrated staff-level impact through leading major technical projects across multiple services with measurable results
- Practical development experience using Python, Go, or comparable languages
- Solid foundation in data structures, concurrency, algorithms, and Linux-based systems
- Extensive background in managing and designing cloud-native architectures in GCP or AWS
- Direct ownership history with highly available production systems including troubleshooting, deployments, and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience shaping technical standards and architectures across team lines
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities
Qualifications
- Background with data stores and messaging systems like Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ, MySQL, and Redis
- Previous exposure to identity, authentication, fraud prevention, or security-focused product ecosystems
- Experience utilizing metrics, logs, and traces for production diagnostics
- History of steering large-scale migrations, capacity optimization, or reliability initiatives
- Experience building internal platforms, reusable engineering patterns, or developer tools
