Job Description

This role centers on managing the traffic routing layer that links every service across the company to its user base. The team builds and runs fundamental compute orchestration systems utilizing CNCF tools such as Kubernetes, Envoy, and Istio. Professionals in this capacity will architect and implement new routing features designed to enhance traffic performance, dependability, and scalability throughout the production fleet.

The position is well-suited for infrastructure engineers who possess extensive background in scaling backend systems on cloud platforms and utilizing service mesh technologies. Ideal candidates enjoy tackling complex distributed systems challenges and helping shape developer workflows. Team members collaborate closely with internal security, reliability, and observability units to meet overarching platform standards.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and automate routing infrastructure directing application traffic to Kubernetes backends
Construct capabilities utilizing Envoy-based reverse proxies, Istio gateways, Ambient mesh, and SPIFFE service authentication
Improve the latency, reliability, and performance of routing systems across the production environment
Establish the paved-road developer experience for operating applications with a focus on AI-driven tooling and processes
Collaborate with Security, Reliability, and Observability groups to fulfill platform requirements

Requirements

At least 8 years of professional background in software engineering and infrastructure roles
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on engineering involvement with reverse proxies, ingress controllers, CDN/WAF, and service mesh technologies
Proficiency in at least one systems programming language including Go, Python, or Java
Demonstrated experience scaling backend infrastructure on AWS
Familiarity with networking, compute, and container orchestration services
Deep familiarity with the CNCF ecosystem including Kubernetes, Envoy, and Istio
Experience diagnosing and resolving complex distributed systems issues independently
Ability to utilize generative AI responsibly within infrastructure workflows
