ServiceNow is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join its team in Hyderabad for a full-time position. This role centers on cloud-native and AI-native software development, focusing heavily on large language models, retrieval systems, and autonomous agents operating on infrastructure-as-a-service platforms like AWS and Google Cloud. The professional chosen for this position will take complete ownership of software lifecycles, encompassing writing, deploying, testing, evaluating, and validating both traditional components and machine learning capabilities. In addition to technical execution, the person will guide and mentor a team of artificial intelligence and software engineers, conduct detailed code reviews, manage day-to-day task execution, set quarterly objectives, and participate in recruitment and training initiatives.
The position requires close cooperation with cross-functional groups, including product management and domain specialists, to architect scalable, customer-focused solutions such as retrieval-augmented generation assistants and agentic workflows. Candidates will also communicate technical capabilities and trade-offs to various stakeholders, maintain software health, monitor production model drift, and adhere to secure coding practices like privacy preservation and prompt-injection defense. Responsibilities
- Design and build AI-native software solutions that satisfy company and customer objectives
- Create technical plans, architectural designs, data retrieval strategies, and prompt or agent layouts
- Analyze and automate component testing while building evaluation harnesses to measure accuracy, detect regressions, and check for hallucinations
- Troubleshoot code and model-behavior issues rapidly to maintain a productive workflow
- Apply secure coding standards, including data privacy measures, personally identifiable information handling, and prompt-injection defenses
- Perform software maintenance, monitor production model drift, and release regular updates
- Utilize IaaS procedures and managed machine learning services such as Amazon SageMaker, AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, and Azure OpenAI
- Communicate professionally with internal and external clients while maintaining transparency regarding the non-deterministic traits of artificial intelligence systems
- Deliver presentations and write progress reports translating technical concepts for broad audiences
- Lead daily task execution and mentor software and artificial intelligence engineers to uphold product quality
- Perform code reviews covering agent logic, prompts, and evaluation metrics
- Set quarterly goals, evaluate team member performance, and participate in recruitment and training
- Lead root-cause analysis for customer-reported problems stemming from model performance, hallucinations, or data retrieval quality
- Collaborate with product management and domain specialists to define requirements for scalable solutions
Requirements
- Possess eight to ten years of practical Java engineering experience
- Demonstrate two years of background in prompt engineering and prompt or agent scripting
- Bring two years of hands-on experience integrating third-party platform application programming interfaces and machine learning services from providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Salesforce
- Design and manage domain-specific languages, prompt templates, and agent instruction frameworks
- Develop and optimize microservices that power high-performance data and embedding pipelines supporting up to ten million rows
- Demonstrate proficiency in Python, Java, and JavaScript, with strong Python capability for the machine learning ecosystem
- Work with RESTful and streaming APIs, model endpoints, web services, and integration technologies
- Build customer-centric artificial intelligence solutions including retrieval-augmented generation assistants, agentic workflows, and customer service applications
- Construct data and knowledge-base migration tools for Software-as-a-Service applications
- Utilize large language model orchestration frameworks like LangChain and LlamaIndex alongside vector databases such as Pinecone, Weaviate, and pgvector
- Write unit tests and evaluation harnesses for code, prompts, and applications
- Isolate root causes and debug complex issues in probabilistic and distributed systems
- Apply Agile and Scrum methodologies
- Work with Spring Boot or comparable frameworks, JSON, SQL, and NoSQL or vector stores
Qualifications
- Hold a bachelor degree in computer science or a related discipline
- Complete coursework or gain experience in machine learning and artificial intelligence
- Familiarity with containerization and Kubernetes
- Experience serving models or deploying inference and graphics processing unit workloads
