Coinbase is hiring a full-time, remote Staff Software Engineer, Native Mobile to join the App Infra team within the Consumer & Business group. The organization operates on a remote-first model, though staff assemble quarterly for in-person working sessions known as surges. In this position, the selected professional will guide a large-scale initiative to replace the existing React Native application with native Swift and Kotlin builds, utilizing AI-driven agentic workflows to convert core surfaces for millions of users.
This role suits an experienced mobile engineer who can design core application architecture, establish compile-time checks and module boundaries, and remain hands-on by writing and reviewing code. Responsibilities also include leading agentic translation workflows, elevating developer experience across build speeds and CI/CD pipelines, and steering a dual-app synchronization strategy during the transition. Candidates will additionally act as mentors and leaders within the wider mobile community.

Responsibilities
- Design the architecture for core native application surfaces utilizing Swift and Kotlin.
- Establish enforceable module boundaries, visibility rules, and compile-time checks.
- Write and review code directly within the team codebases.
- Lead agentic code translation workflows and set automation parameters for migration tasks.
- Enhance developer experience by improving build speeds, CI/CD reliability, and local workflows.
- Guide the dual-app agentic synchronization strategy during the transition phase.
- Mentor L3-L5 mobile engineers and define best practices across the mobile engineering community.
Requirements
- Minimum of eight years of mobile software engineering experience focusing on iOS or Android using Swift or Kotlin.
- Working proficiency in the alternate mobile platform with a readiness to develop cross-platform fluency.
- Demonstrated background in shipping large-scale mobile applications with direct oversight of architecture, performance budgets, and release quality.
- Expertise in mobile performance optimization across device tiers, including low-end Android hardware.
- Experience implementing AI-assisted code generation or LLM-driven development workflows.
- Track record of improving developer experience via build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and release tooling.
