The engineering group in San Francisco is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to focus on PEO Growth.
This position centers on guiding customers smoothly through the end-to-end adoption journey, ensuring that business owners seamlessly transition from initial interest to full setup without dropping off. The work combines software development with cross-functional coordination, technical planning, and funnel instrumentation. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguous situations, brings strong full-stack capabilities, and actively incorporates artificial intelligence into daily engineering workflows.
Employees in hybrid roles operate out of the San Francisco office approximately two to three days each week, requiring consistent and reliable attendance. Total compensation for this full-time position includes a base salary paired with equity in the form of restricted stock units.
Responsibilities
- Manage the complete onboarding experience for the Professional Employer Organization from initial discovery to active setup
- Establish technical direction by turning ambiguous product goals into designs, sequencing plans, and durable abstractions
- Integrate multiple application domains across different teams into a cohesive user journey
- Leverage artificial intelligence tools during daily tasks such as coding, code reviews, debugging, and exploration
- Integrate AI-assisted guidance directly into the onboarding workflow to help customers resolve blockers independently
- Instrument the conversion funnel, track metrics, and drive product changes using experimental data rather than intuition
- Elevate engineering quality standards by contributing to code reviews, testing approaches, and observability
Requirements
- Minimum of eight years of professional software engineering experience
- Demonstrated background owning user-facing product features inside a large production codebase
- Strong full-stack proficiency with both server-side environments and component-based frontend frameworks
- Proven AI fluency with hands-on experience using AI tooling in daily development work
- High sense of ownership when navigating ambiguous business requirements without a finalized specification
- Strong collaboration and influence skills across organizational boundaries
Qualifications
- Familiarity with Ruby on Rails and React or TypeScript
- Prior background working in growth domains such as conversion funnels, purchase configuration, or provisioning systems
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
