Chiredzi Town Council seeks a Systems Administrator to oversee the local authority's information and communication technology operations. Operating on-site in Harare, this full-time role reports directly to the Town Secretary as a Grade 12 position. The professional selected will take charge of sustaining the municipal technology landscape, safeguarding infrastructure, and guiding technical personnel.
This position is well-suited for an experienced information technology professional with a background in municipal operations, public-sector frameworks, or enterprise infrastructure management. The incoming specialist will handle day-to-day administration of networks, databases, and servers while ensuring strict adherence to technical legislation and internal protocols.
Core duties involve maintaining high system availability, executing disaster recovery plans, troubleshooting hardware or software failures, and coordinating scheduled system upgrades. The administrator will also act as a primary technical advisor to leadership, liaise with external technology vendors, and deliver internal support across all municipal departments.
Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain the technology infrastructure, applications, and networks of the Council
- Administer database systems, servers, user accounts, and related assets
- Write and enforce technology administration policies, security controls, and procedural standards
- Track system performance and resolve network, hardware, or software issues
- Oversee data recovery protocols, disaster recovery plans, and routine system backups
- Supervise technology personnel and deliver direct technical direction
- Schedule hardware replacements, software installations, and system enhancements
- Communicate with external technology vendors and various stakeholders

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited university
- Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience working in network administration, systems administration, or infrastructure management
- Background in enterprise technology environments handling operating systems, servers, databases, and networks
- Familiarity with backup procedures, security protocols, and disaster recovery systems
- Possession of a clean Class 4 driver's licence
Qualifications
- Holder of a relevant professional technology certification or qualification
- Experience working in a supervisory or managerial capacity
