Coinbase is seeking a Trade Surveillance Associate, Derivatives to join the Market Regulation Department of Coinbase Derivatives, LLC (CDE). This remote-first position offers the opportunity to support the integrity of a CFTC-registered designated contract market. The person in this role will monitor market activity, examine potential infractions, and uphold the rules established by CDE.
This hands-on position is suited for professionals who have experience with regulated financial exchanges and can manage multiple concurrent inquiries. Team members participate in quarterly in-person working sessions known as surges. Coinbase operates as an equal opportunity employer.
Key duties involve analyzing surveillance alerts, investigating disruptive trading behavior such as spoofing and wash trading, and generating documentation for regulatory obligations. The selected candidate will report findings to leadership and stakeholders while identifying systemic compliance risks.
Responsibilities
- Investigate potential rule infractions including spoofing, wash trading, front running, and fraud by participants
- Review and triage alerts generated by the trade surveillance system
- Draft investigative reports and maintain accurate records for all inquiries
- Prepare updates and presentations for the Chief Regulatory Officer, the CDE Board, and the Regulatory Oversight Committee
- Identify data patterns to spot emerging market risks and suggest workflow improvements
Requirements
- Possess at least three years of experience in trade and market surveillance for regulated entities such as exchanges, DCMs, DCOs, or broker-dealers
- Understand market mechanics, derivatives trading, and investigative methods
- Apply CFTC rules and exchange guidelines to specific trading situations
- Draft clear investigative memos, reports, and presentations for various stakeholders
- Handle multiple concurrent investigations and regulatory deadlines accurately
- Utilize generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency
