The organization is seeking a remote VP, Access Strategy and Payer Engagement to lead market access, pricing, contracting, and health economics and outcomes research across the product portfolio. This senior leader will own the development of value narratives, direct negotiations with major payers and pharmacy benefit managers, and market-shaping strategies ahead of commercial product launches. Operating as both a hands-on strategist and a team leader, the incumbent will partner closely with executive, commercial, legal, and medical teams to align access planning with brand objectives and gross-to-net financial performance.
This position is well-suited for an experienced pharmaceutical executive who possesses deep expertise in United States payer dynamics, buy-and-bill launch procedures, and evidence generation frameworks. The successful candidate will drive enterprise growth through strategic cross-functional collaboration, direct customer engagement, and talent development.
Responsibilities
- Direct the complete market access strategy across the portfolio, integrating payer marketing, pricing, and contracting into a unified plan
- Oversee the health economics and outcomes research agenda, including the creation of economic models, AMCP dossiers, and real-world evidence strategies
- Guide portfolio pricing and contracting strategies to balance market accessibility with net trade sales and gross-to-net targets
- Manage national and regional payer account relationships, leading high-level negotiations regarding coverage policies and value-based arrangements
- Establish proactive market-shaping initiatives and launch readiness preparations, addressing potential access hurdles for pipeline assets
- Monitor regulatory shifts, policy changes, and competitor coverage movements to inform forecasting and account strategies
- Partner with executive leadership, legal counsel, and commercial teams to align brand financial goals with access decisions
- Lead, mentor, and expand the market access department while functioning as a hands-on strategic contributor during growth phases
Requirements
- Possess a bachelor degree
- Accumulate between 12 and 15 years or more of progressive industry experience within pharmaceutical or biotech market access, payer strategy, or health economics and outcomes research
- Hold at least 3 years of experience operating at the executive director or vice president level
- Demonstrate a history of designing and executing multi-year market access plans tied to long-range financial and brand planning
- Show expert-level familiarity with United States payer mechanics, commercial channels, Medicare, Medicaid, and gross-to-net financial principles
- Bring direct background launching a Medicare Part B buy-and-bill therapeutic, covering the transition from miscellaneous J-codes to permanent coding
- Maintain advanced proficiency in health economics and outcomes research methodologies, such as budget impact models and cost-effectiveness evaluations
- Exhibit proven negotiation competence directly with national payers and pharmacy benefit managers regarding coverage and value-based contracts
Qualifications
- Earn an advanced degree such as an MBA or a business or healthcare-related equivalent
- Bring previous professional experience specifically within ophthalmology or retina therapeutic categories
