Dialpad is seeking an Applied Scientist to join its AI team and conduct research and development for next-generation autonomous voice agents and business communication features. Dialpad provides an AI platform for customer experience that operates across voice and digital channels to resolve issues, automate workflows, and deliver real-time insights. In this role, the selected candidate will design, build, and deploy advanced machine learning and natural language processing models.
This position is well-suited for professionals experienced in large language models and natural language processing who want to work on multi-modal, real-time agentic systems. The scientist will work alongside engineering, product, and design teams from the company's office in Kitchener, Ontario, reporting to the manager of the NLP team. The work involves managing large text datasets, analyzing model performance, and contributing to the scientific community through academic publications.

Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and refine machine learning and natural language processing algorithms
- Monitor model performance, troubleshoot issues, and evaluate business impacts
- Manage large textual data sets
- Build advanced LLM-based features involving reasoning, multimodal, and multilingual processing
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and design teams to scale models in production
- Submit research papers to top-tier academic journals and conferences and review submissions
Requirements
- Master's degree with 2+ years of NLP industry experience or PhD degree with 1+ years of NLP industry experience
- Demonstrated experience with machine learning, Python, and PyTorch
- Understanding of current LLM model architectures, tuning, and optimization techniques
- Problem-solving abilities and analytical skills
- Communication and collaboration skills for multidisciplinary team environments
- Familiarity with version control tools like Git
