The organization is seeking its inaugural Bookkeeper to join the Financial Management division as a foundational member. In this capacity, the professional will execute daily accounting tasks for early restaurant clients while collaborating directly with engineering and product teams to help establish the service platform from the ground up. Responsibilities
- Manage complete accounting cycles for a portfolio of pilot hospitality clients, including chart of accounts setup, monthly closes, reconciliations, accruals, and statement delivery.
- Act as the internal subject matter expert on specialized restaurant financials, such as prime costs, cost of goods sold, tip allocation, multi-unit consolidations, and sales tax compliance.
- Partner with engineering and product personnel to translate practical workflows into software roadmap requirements.
- Establish standard operating procedures, internal controls, and quality assurance workflows for the developing accounting practice.
- Communicate directly with hospitality operators to manage expectations, build trust, and understand business needs.
- Contribute to departmental growth strategies by advising on future hiring, tool selection, and automation opportunities.
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of bookkeeping background with dedicated focus on restaurant or hospitality clients.
- Comprehensive understanding of culinary accounting principles, including prime cost, tip reporting, multi-location consolidation, and point-of-sale data reconciliation.
- Proficiency in modern accounting applications and a willingness to adopt new technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to establish a new process or practice from the ground up.
- Strong communication capabilities to explain financial details clearly to operators and internal partners.
- High attention to detail and organizational discipline to maintain multiple accounts accurately and on schedule.
Qualifications
- Prior background within a technology startup, professional services firm, or fintech environment.
- Familiarity with Toast POS or alternative hospitality management platforms.
- Experience utilizing artificial intelligence tools such as Claude, GPT, or Gemini.
