Job Description
Monzo is recruiting a Credit Risk Manager to run portfolio management within its Borrowing business. The job is full-time and can be based in London or handled remotely within the UK. The posted base is £100,000 to £130,000, plus incentive awards and benefits. The role sits with the Borrowing team inside the Data discipline.
The product in focus is Flex, a credit card built to give customers greater visibility and control over what they spend. Portfolio management for Flex is at a very early stage, so the position is effectively a blank canvas. The manager would begin with three credit analysts, with scope to expand the group, and help prepare the ground for a wider footprint as Monzo moves into Europe.
Duties include building frameworks that keep tabs on risk and revenue and project them forward, creating a risk-based pricing programme, and designing lifecycle plans covering upgrade paths, engagement rewards and balance-transfer offers. The manager would also devise loss-control measures such as lowering credit limits, with the aim of protecting customers who are financially stretched. They would serve as the credit risk specialist embedded in a product squad and manage relationships with second line risk, legal and compliance teams.
Applicants should be commercially minded credit leaders who understand unsecured lending well, ideally including credit card lifecycle work. The post asks for experience in risk-based pricing, retention, upgrades and loss mitigation, a firm commitment to credit and conduct risk, and a history of leading analytical staff. SQL is a must, while Python and Looker are welcome extras.
