Job Description
The Director of Engineering, Infrastructure and Operations leads Motive's core infrastructure and operations engineering group. The leader manages and mentors a multi-functional team spanning site reliability engineering, operations, data and AI platform work, and database engineering. The role owns the cloud platform and treats infrastructure as a product, with an emphasis on keeping business-critical systems dependable at enterprise scale.
This is a senior leadership post for an engineer who has already managed managers and has strong systems architecture judgment. The director is expected to step in during critical moments and to work directly with company executives.
Core duties include growing a strong team that runs shared systems across the company, setting initiatives that span several quarters to improve reliability and leverage, and working with product and engineering leaders on the platform's long-term design. The director turns hard problems, such as scalability and reliability gaps, into clear plans, and aligns several teams on internal platforms, infrastructure and cloud governance.
The position is full-time and on-site in the United States. The posting lists a base compensation range of $238,000 to $300,000 CAD. Motive says it serves close to 100,000 customers across industries such as logistics, construction and energy.

- Turn ambiguous, high-impact challenges such as scalability, reliability and platform abstractions into execution plans
- Bring together teams whose systems depend on each other, covering internal platforms, infrastructure and cloud governance
- Raise the bar for engineering quality, operational discipline and delivery across the platform organization
Requirements
- Twelve or more years in software or infrastructure engineering, five of them leading infrastructure, SRE or operations groups and managing managers
- Strong sense of systems architecture
- A degree in computer science or an equivalent background
- Ability to work across functions with a clear sense of ownership
- Extensive hands-on AWS experience at large scale, covering VPC, IAM, multi-account setups, core services, observability and cost optimization
- Strong AI fluency: able to assess, adopt and oversee LLM and AI platforms such as AWS Bedrock, Anthropic and OpenAI
- Experience managing vendors, partners and cost governance
- Experience with databases and data platforms, covering OLTP and analytics, plus data and ML/AI infrastructure
- A record of running high-reliability platforms, including SLOs, incident management, on-call practice and postmortems
- Experience running processes that raise engineering standards
- Clear communication and the ability to handle escalations with CEO-level visibility
- Proven success operating infrastructure as a product, with roadmaps and tracking of uptake
Qualifications
- Experience in business software or other high-reliability sectors like payments, logistics or safety
