Job Description
The company is recruiting a senior leader to run its Client Engineering organisation, which is responsible for the health and delivery of the mobile and web apps. The group brings together architecture, developer productivity and quality assurance teams. The director manages engineering managers and works with a group of staff engineers on the hardest technical problems.
The director sets technical direction and standards for the frontend. Duties include shaping a practical frontend strategy, clearing bottlenecks in the large monorepo, and assessing whether the tooling and team model suit business goals. The role also covers visibility of product behaviour across configurations, a modern release engineering model with frequent and predictable deployments, and exploring how AI and agentic tools could improve frontend performance and member experiences.
The ideal candidate has led large engineering organisations and is at ease with high-scale frontend architecture. The listing values a pragmatist who is not tied to a single framework, has raised efficiency and modernised mobile release cycles, and can explain trade-offs to technical and non-technical colleagues.
The current stack uses Flutter and Dart for mobile, Angular for web, Java 17 and above with Spring Boot on the backend, PostgreSQL and MySQL, Kafka and AWS SQS and SNS, plus Kubernetes on AWS. Delivery and monitoring rest on GitHub Actions, LaunchDarkly, DataDog and Firebase. The role is based in London and is marked on-site.
