Job Description

Motive is seeking a full-time, on-site Director of Product Strategy and Monetization in the United States. This leader oversees the financial and commercial side of the company's R&D group. Responsibilities include setting revenue strategy, making price and bundling decisions, protecting profitability and driving cost savings across Product and Engineering, with near-term monetization linked to a longer-range product and corporate direction. The Director reports upward to the head of Product, the Sr. Director, assembles a team, and interacts frequently with senior executives throughout the company.

The position merges financial analysis with multi-year planning. The Director sets growth strategy for the firm's principal software offerings, guides pricing and bundle choices from initial analysis through rollout and tracking, and establishes how spending on devices, cellular links, IoT infrastructure and software services gets measured. The job also includes constructing the cost data that underpins product-level margins, sizing new product categories and nearby opportunities, running trial projects, shaping long-term plans based on market and competitor insight, and managing the R&D planning rhythm, which includes planning sessions, performance reviews and executive reporting.

Candidates should have five or more years in an operating role within business operations or corporate strategy, plus at least two years in consulting or investment banking. Advanced modeling skill is required, along with evidence of results measured in revenue, margin or savings, not only recommendations. Applicants must have shown they can influence peers across departments without formal authority, and have recruited and managed a team.

Responsibilities

  • Map out the revenue expansion approach for core software lines.
  • Own pricing and bundling governance, from analysis to release and results tracking.
  • Set the methodology for allocating R&D expenses across devices, connectivity, IoT and services.
  • Build the cost-data basis for product margin and cost of goods.
  • Team with product line heads on revenue gains and savings that raise gross margin.
  • Estimate the size of new lines and neighboring markets, and run prototype tests.
  • Build multi-year product and company direction from market and customer findings.
  • Lead the planning cycle, business reviews and executive reporting for R&D.
  • Recruit and manage a group of strategy and operations staff.

Requirements

  • Five or more years in business operations or corporate strategy roles.
  • Two-plus years at a consulting firm or in investment banking.
  • Advanced financial modeling and the ability to convert analysis into clear advice for executives.
  • Documented success moving revenue, margins or costs, not only offering recommendations.
  • Proven capacity to influence other functions and levels without formal authority.
  • Experience recruiting, mentoring and leading a team.

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Medical, prescription, vision and dental coverage (eligibility rules apply).
  • Paid vacation and sick leave.
  • Disability protection covering both short and long periods.
  • Life insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement contributions.
  • Restricted stock units may form part of total pay in certain positions.
