Job Description
The Accounts team runs the platform layer underneath the company's financial infrastructure. It maintains the core financial ledger, which records each member's money, and also handles account opening, regulatory obligations, statements and the full account life cycle. The team supports the UK, India and the EU and works with several banking partners and account types.
The team is about to be divided. The ledger is moving into its own Ledger Team with separate service level objectives, on-call arrangements and technical roadmap. This remote Engineering Manager will lead the whole Accounts team through the change, help define the technical boundary between the two groups, and decide where engineers are placed. Once the split is complete, the manager transfers to lead the Ledger Team, and a new manager will be hired for the remaining Accounts team.
The job is hands-on. The manager defines consistency promises, decides which group owns each schema across ledger, account opening and statements, sets direction for performance, availability and design, and runs SLOs, observability and incident practice. Working with product, compliance and operations colleagues and growing engineers at every level are also part of the role.
The team includes nine engineers across backend, mobile and web. The current toolset includes Aurora PostgreSQL on AWS, containers run through Docker and EKS, infrastructure in Terraform, ArgoCD for deployment, and Coralogix for monitoring. Pay is a gross monthly salary of EUR 7,500 to 11,000, depending on skills and experience.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Accounts team through the ledger split, including how engineers are mapped to each team
- Set the technical boundary covering ledger writes, consistency promises, schema ownership and statements
- After the split, set the technical course for the Ledger Team: performance, availability and design
- Own system stability through SLOs, observability and on-call practice
- Collaborate with product, compliance and ops colleagues to keep features accurate and lawful
- Develop engineers at every level and coordinate with other banking engineering managers
Requirements
- Meaningful engineering management experience, including real delivery
- A solid backend foundation for engaging with code and design
- Track record guiding teams spread across time zones
- Fintech or banking experience, including the regulatory landscape
- Solid command of large-scale distributed systems, consistency trade-offs and reliability techniques
- Hands-on time building microservice architectures in cloud settings
- Relational database engineering at scale, including transactions and write performance
- Experience with event-driven systems and distributed systems migrations
Qualifications
- Handling heavy transaction volumes in payments, currency exchange or related fields (a plus)
- Some involvement with agentic or AI-driven platforms and current engineering methods (a plus)
