Job Description

The Manage Money team develops the systems that let members control how funds move through their accounts. Its scope takes in moves between a member's own accounts, direct debit mandates, recurring transfers, sweep rules and balance alerts. Because the team serves the UK, India and the EU, each market brings separate payment schemes, regulatory duties and banking partners.

This remote Engineering Manager role is about getting things right every time. Direct debit mandates bring scheme rules, disputes and indemnity claims, and scheduled instructions such as standing orders and sweeps leave no room for mistakes. The manager defines the team's technical course, partners with product on what to build, and pushes for better monitoring, service level objectives and sound architecture.

Seven engineers in Lithuania and Bulgaria, working on server-side and app code, report into this role. The manager is expected to stay close to the detail of mandate management, scheduling, sweep logic and transfer flows, and to coach engineers at every stage of their careers.

Candidates need genuine engineering management experience, a strong server-side background and a record of guiding teams spread across time zones. Fintech or banking experience is required, and experience with direct debits or standing orders is a major advantage. The platform runs Java and Spring Boot microservices on AWS with PostgreSQL, SNS and SQS messaging, DataDog monitoring that is moving to Coralogix, Flutter for mobile and Angular for web.

Responsibilities

  • Define engineering direction for reliability, correctness, observability and long-term architecture
  • Partner with product so features are accurate and meet scheme rules in every market
  • Own stability through service level objectives, on-call practice and incident response
  • Stay close to mandate management, scheduling, sweep logic and internal transfer flows
  • Grow engineers at every level and maintain a development plan for each person
  • Work with peer engineering managers across Banking on common platform and wide-reaching choices

Requirements

  • Meaningful engineering management experience, including real delivery
  • A solid server-side engineering foundation
  • Track record guiding teams spread across time zones, many of them working remotely
  • Ability to work with product and non-engineering teams such as compliance and finance operations
  • Fintech or banking domain experience
  • Understanding of reliability engineering, scheduled systems and event-driven design
  • Experience with strongly typed backend languages and relational databases at scale
  • Experience with asynchronous, event-driven systems

Qualifications

  • Background in recurring payment schemes, for example direct debit or standing order systems (strong plus)
  • Some familiarity with agentic or AI-driven systems (a plus)

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and share options
  • 25 days of paid annual leave
  • Extended maternity and paternity leave funded by the company
  • Learning budget of EUR 500 a year
  • Additional health and dental insurance and a mental wellbeing platform
  • Multisport card, food vouchers and office snacks
  • Home-working equipment allowance, flexible home working and sabbatical leave
