Job Description
Tide is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead its Accounts team. The employer provides business accounts, banking services, and connected administrative solutions like invoicing and accounting to small and medium-sized enterprises globally across the United Kingdom, India, Germany, and France. In this role, you will oversee a platform layer responsible for account opening, regulatory compliance, account management, switching, and the entire member-facing transaction experience.
This is a product-facing platform position where you will set technical direction, handle delivery and reliability, and mentor engineers across backend, Flutter mobile, and Angular web frameworks. You will partner closely with product, design, compliance, and operations teams, while ensuring high standards of data correctness and financial system accuracy. The core technology stack features Java, Spring Boot, JOOQ, PostgreSQL, AWS infrastructure, and event-driven architecture utilizing Kafka, SNS, and SQS.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Accounts team spanning backend, Flutter mobile, and Angular web development
- Define and maintain the interface and data schemas with the core ledger
- Manage account opening, account management, switching, and regulatory compliance
- Oversee the complete end-to-end member-facing transaction experience and history
- Establish technical direction for read-heavy, data-rich services connected to client apps
- Ensure system stability, operational reliability, service level objectives, and on-call practices
- Collaborate with product, design, compliance, and operations teams
- Mentor and grow engineers at all experience levels within the team
- Coordinate with other internal groups building on top of the Accounts platform
Requirements
- Meaningful engineering management experience leading teams through real delivery
- Background in leading product-driven teams accountable for customer outcomes
- Solid foundational background in backend engineering
- Experience leading distributed, remote-first teams across multiple time zones
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, data consistency, reliability patterns, and observability tooling
- Proficiency in backend engineering using a strongly typed language
- Experience with microservices within a cloud-native AWS environment
- Familiarity with designing and operating APIs and data services for mobile and web clients
- Experience with relational database engineering, data modeling, and query performance
Qualifications
- Familiarity with Java and Spring Boot
- Experience with event-driven and asynchronous systems
- Familiarity with mobile and web delivery using Flutter and Angular
- Exposure to agentic or AI-integrated systems and engineering practices
