Job Description

Deliveroo is recruiting a full-time Golang Backend Engineer for Financial Product Fraud, based on-site in London. The post is among the first engineering hires in a newly formed London hub and works closely with teams in Helsinki and Berlin. The team protects every point where money leaves the platform, including payouts, lending, banking products and earned-wage products used by couriers and merchants.

The engineer builds and maintains high-throughput, low-latency Go services that score financial events as they happen, such as payout sign-ups, linked bank accounts, credit requests and transfers between accounts. Responsibilities cover fraud detection and automated enforcement from the first signal through to the decision that stops a fraudulent payout. The engineer extends a shared fraud decisioning platform so that data points, rules and models function consistently across the three brands, and works alongside fraud analysts, data specialists and product managers to turn fraud patterns into live detection. Input from account security teams, the payments fraud group and financial product squads matters, and the engineer builds on it rather than duplicating it.

The posting asks for three to six years of professional software engineering, including backend services the candidate has shipped and run in production. At least one year of production Go is expected, or solid work in another backend language with a clear wish to learn Go quickly. Candidates should grasp distributed systems that combine low latency with high throughput, have hands-on time with SQL or NoSQL stores, and bring some familiarity with Kafka-style event pipelines. Willingness to run what they build, including some on-call duty, is required, as is daily use of AI tools with a critical eye on the output. Experience in fraud, risk, payments or lending is a strong plus, as are rules engines, feature stores, Kotlin, Java, Python, Node.js, AWS or GCP, and work across brands or regulatory regimes.

Responsibilities

  • Build low-latency Go services that score payouts, linked bank accounts, credit requests and transfers as they happen
  • Own fraud detection and automatic enforcement, from raw signal capture to the blocking decision
  • Extend a shared fraud decisioning platform used by all three brands
  • Turn fraud patterns into live detection alongside fraud analysts, data specialists and product managers
  • Build on signals from the account security team, the payments fraud group and financial product squads
  • Contribute to architecture and technical decisions for the financial products fraud foundation
  • Write tested, observable code and share on-call rotation duties

Requirements

  • Three to six years of professional software engineering, including production backend services
  • At least one year of production Go, or strong backend experience in another language and a clear wish to learn Go
  • Grounding in distributed systems that combine low latency with high throughput
  • Hands-on experience with SQL or NoSQL databases
  • Some familiarity with Kafka-style event pipelines
  • Willingness to operate services in production, including on-call
  • Daily use of AI tooling with the judgement to check its output

Qualifications

  • Exposure to lending, payments or financial-crime work (a strong plus)
  • Decision-engine tooling, streaming feature stores, or model serving for ML (nice to have)
  • Kotlin, Java, Python and Node.js experience counts in addition to Go (nice to have)
  • Familiarity with AWS or GCP (nice to have)
