Tide is a global platform that assists small and medium-sized enterprises with banking, accounts, and financial administration, serving more than two million members across multiple countries. The organization is currently seeking a Head of Engineering for Tide Credit Services to direct the technology behind on-demand business lending offerings such as Credit Flex, Instant Loan, and Credit Score Insights. In this senior leadership capacity, the individual will shape architecture, drive delivery of automated lending engines, and oversee the technical platform as it scales internationally across the UK, Europe, and India.
The position is remote-first and requires collaborating closely with cross-functional peers across product, design, risk, compliance, and engineering. The selected candidate will retain a hands-on approach, engaging directly with architectural design, third-party integrations, and complex technical challenges while mentoring engineering managers and senior staff. Key focus areas include embedding AI-native working methods, maintaining high engineering standards, and ensuring resilient, compliant microservice architectures.
Responsibilities
- Define the architectural strategy for the credit platform to support rapid international expansion and high reliability
- Oversee the creation and deployment of secure, fast lending products for members
- Collaborate with business, risk, compliance, and product units to translate strategy into shipped deliverables
- Manage external integrations encompassing payment gateways, funding partners, and credit data sources
- Maintain hands-on involvement in architecture, design decisions, and critical engineering challenges
- Promote engineering fundamentals, system security, quality, and AI-native workflows
- Mentor engineering managers and developers to foster accountability and continuous learning
- Contribute to overarching technical strategies as credit services scale globally
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of backend software engineering experience
- At least 3 years of experience in senior engineering leadership roles
- Demonstrated expertise in building and operating event-driven, distributed microservices architectures
- Track record of integrating AI tools and LLMs into engineering team pipelines with measurable improvements
- Experience developing software within regulated industry environments
- Background in launching and scaling products across multiple geographic jurisdictions
- Demonstrated history of delivering complex technical systems and third-party integrations
- Ability to articulate technical rationales and translate business objectives into execution roadmaps
Qualifications
- Prior background working within the credit domain, covering lending, decisioning, loan servicing, or repayments
- Wider financial technology industry experience
