Job Description

Tether.io seeks a Head of Global Events and Travel to direct the strategy, oversight, and operations of its worldwide corporate travel and event portfolios. This fully remote position operates globally across European, Middle Eastern, and American time zones and requires up to 40 percent international travel. The person in this role will guide three primary areas: high-complexity, VIP, and client-facing gatherings; internal corporate meetings and offsites; and dedicated financial control alongside commercial management.

The incoming professional will manage consolidated budgets, negotiate strategic supplier agreements, and establish duty-of-care governance. An immediate key objective involves spearheading the implementation and transition to an updated global travel operating model, which includes multi-region Travel Management Company requests for proposals, unified expense frameworks, and phased corridor migrations. After establishment, the Head will oversee periodic performance reviews and handle escalations. This professional will collaborate closely with internal teams including Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, Finance, Legal, People Ops, IT, and Security, while engaging directly with C-level executives, enterprise clients, and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the events and travel team by filling open positions, setting operational cadences, and building functional capabilities
  • Plan resources across internal talent, agencies, and production vendors for seamless client-facing and internal events
  • Execute objectives, budgets, and brand standards for large conferences, VIP executive receptions, and regional customer summits
  • Manage venue selection, production, security, contract negotiations, and attendee experiences
  • Oversee the internal gathering strategy and establish standardized playbooks for company meetings and leadership offsites
  • Implement the approved global travel operating model, managing RFPs, multi-region TMC contracts, unified expense policies, and corridor-by-corridor migrations
  • Own global travel strategy, master agreements, group flights, hotel blocks, and high-touch support for executives and guests
  • Control consolidated events and travel budgets, revenue models, financial forecasting, and client billing reconciliations
  • Lead negotiations with TMCs, airlines, hotel chains, event venues, and production partners
  • Establish global travel policies covering traveler assistance, emergency response, data privacy, and incident escalation

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience leading corporate events and managed travel programs
  • At least 3 years of experience leading a global function within a fast-growing international setting
  • Demonstrated track record of organizing both internal company meetings and high-impact client-facing gatherings
  • Hands-on background directing large-scale conferences with 5000 or more attendees from end to end
  • Practical experience implementing or re-platforming corporate travel frameworks, TMC selections, and duty-of-care rollouts
  • Working knowledge of airline and hotel distribution economics and commercial contracting
  • Proven financial acumen in budget ownership, forecasting, ROI tracking, and vendor negotiations
  • Professional fluency in English with the ability to travel internationally up to 40 percent of the time

Qualifications

  • Experience with multi-TMC or hybrid environments
  • Familiarity with virtual-card systems or modern payment settlements
  • Professional fluency in Spanish and/or Italian
