Job Description
Monzo is hiring a Lead Product Manager for Payments in London, on a hybrid basis. The role pays £125,000 to £145,000 plus equity, incentive awards tied to performance and benefits. It sits in the Payments Platform area and works closely with the Finance Infrastructure squad. That squad belongs to Payments but partners closely with Finance to build the systems the bank needs to run securely, grow and enter new markets.
The work concerns foundational financial infrastructure, including the general ledger, financial data, control frameworks, reporting, reconciliation and platform services that show how money is accounted for across the bank. The lead would set the plan and direction for Finance Infrastructure, working alongside engineering, finance and payments heads to understand what the company needs from its financial systems now and as it scales. A central goal is shifting the team from reacting to requests towards a strategic, product-driven way of working, asking why work is needed and how today's choices support future needs.
The lead would turn accounting, operational and compliance requirements into platform services that can support several products, legal entities, countries, currencies and regulatory regimes. The role also involves weighing immediate delivery pressure against durable system health, and building trust with senior leaders in finance, engineering, product and operations teams.
Applicants should be strong senior product managers who have owned intricate technical, platform, infrastructure or finance systems. They should have enough technical depth to work credibly with engineers on systems, trade-offs and architecture, and be interested in less visible but business-critical infrastructure. The posting also asks for comfort in ambiguous, stakeholder-heavy settings, a high-agency approach and a commitment to customer and business results even when the work is removed from the end customer.
The hiring process has three stages: a first meeting with the Collective Product Director, a second meeting with engineering and finance leadership, and a full product loop. The posting says the process takes about three to four weeks. Relocation help and visa sponsorship are available, and part-time working can be discussed.
