Job Description
SEEK is hiring a Lead Software Engineer for its AI and Platform Services team, working on the All the Ads area in Pricing and Performance. The role is full-time and remote. The team's work spans ad pricing, ad ranking, hirer behaviour and a view of the ad market as a whole. The team is global, with members in Australia and Kuala Lumpur.
The position centres on people leadership. The lead manages a team of engineers, sets goals, gives feedback and supports career growth, while building a culture of ownership and collaboration. The lead also sets technical direction and is accountable for dependable, scalable backend services and APIs. The post is generalist in nature: the lead designs systems, builds APIs, puts machine learning models into production and supports the health of the platform.
The lead works with data specialists, product managers and neighbouring teams to shape problems and priorities. Architecture choices have to weigh speed, quality, resilience, security and upkeep, and the lead handles integrations and technical compromises across SEEK. The role also includes improving engineering, DevOps and machine learning operations, and exploring practical uses of new AI technologies.
Candidates need proven experience shipping and running live software, APIs or platforms, and deep backend skills in Python or Java. Strong SQL, hands-on familiarity with AWS and contemporary cloud engineering methods, and a record of technical leadership are required. Some hands-on exposure to data, AI or ML work is expected, but specialist ML knowledge is not required.
